A Trip Up North

These pictures were taken up on the North Shore of Lake Superior when went up there to stay at the cabin for the weekend. We stayed at a nice cabin at the Temperance Traders in Schroeder, MN.

We arrived at the cabins on Friday night and had a pleasant surprise; we had been upgraded to a two bedroom cabin up from the one room cabin. There wasn't a cloud in the sky that night. With no city light to impair our site, you could literally see every star. It is just an awesome sight to see.

The next day the forecasters had called for rain, but luckily we had sunny skies for most of the day. We had a great day of hiking and seeing the beautiful scenery all along the North Shore. We started out at the Temperance River to see the waterfalls and gorge that the water has carved out over thousands of years.

From there we went to Palisade Head which is near Tettegouche State Park. The boys had a blast climbing the rocks and throwing rocks. The scary part was keeping a close eye on Joshua, because the cliff walls are about 300 feet high above the lake in some places.

Our last stop for the day was at Gooseberry State Park which is probably the most visited and one of the best places on the North Shore. There are beautiful waterfalls and so many rocks and cliffs to climb. It totally makes you feel like a kid again. The only real issues we had while we were there was Joshua's addiction to water (read previous post). I didn't mind him getting his shoes wet, but of course he didn't want to stop there. There were so many times I stopped him right before he sat in the puddles or little running streams. I'm totally glad we brought a kid carrier to keep him safely on one of our backs.

As soon as we got back to the cabin it wanted to rain. I'm sorry but camping is not camping without a camp fire. Yeah I know, we weren't really camping if we were in a cabin. A little sprinkling wasn't going to stop me from having a fire, so I put on a poncho and had my fire. It only rained a tiny bit, so we had a fun night by the fire.

We did a little more hiking the next day and then headed back home. We had a great weekend that helped cap off a great summer we had just had. I can't wait to go up next year.

Helping Big Brother

These pictures were taken in the backyard while Elijah was watering the bushes. Of course, where there is water, there is Joshua. That boy loves water!

Elijah is such a good brother and understanding when it comes to his little brother. Like in these pictures he was showing Joshua the ropes when it comes to watering plants and bushes. As you can see it didn't take long until Joshua decided to get himself 'watered'.

There are so many days that Leah and I have to change Joshua's clothes two, maybe three times a day because of his obsession with water. The cat's water bowl, any random mud puddle, or even the simple water glass; it doesn't matter one bit to Joshua because he wants to be wearing it.

Oh the joys of parenthood!
